About Us

We’re that couple.  Happy. Optimistic. Balanced. We still genuinely like each other after 13 years together.  If you aren’t annoyed by all of this, you might like this site while we document our great adventure.

I'm a risk taker when it's within the confines of the kinds of risks that "make sense", particularly in terms of my career in software marketing.  Career risks, changing jobs, trying new projects, etc.  But just up and leaving my job to experience non-working life is testing me a bit.  And I love it!  For now.  I have a need to be productive, and that's my biggest concern (if you want to call it that) heading into this adventure.  I can't help myself, so I already have different kinds of goals for this time.

One of my biggest goals for our time off (besides getting away from my phone to check for work messages) is to learn Spanish.  After 5 semesters in college, I know the hard stuff like grammar and conjugation, but I don't know what any words mean.  It's a life skill I want to get now!

I want to meet new people and live simply. I want to walk to every place I need to be in a day. I want to appreciate not just the days, but also the minutes.  I want to write something that isn't trying to sell a product.

Unplugging -- except for this blog to share our experiences -- should be good for me, but I expect to be jonesin' hard for some NPR news and NFL playoff games.

I am guilty of being a day dreamer. I dream about things I would like to try.  I have a lot of interests and an overwhelming need to explore them.  I am fortunate to have a wife who is willing to entertain these thoughts.

I worked for a utility for 13 years, have the home with the white picket fence, a beautiful wife, all the stuff that most people work to obtain, two cars in the garage (well, the driveway), and great friends. I live in an extremely open city that allows us to be together.

So why am I giving that up?  I am not.  I just want to live for today and do the things today that I will not regret tomorrow.  Do those things that I believe life is all about; be good to one another, help others, spend more time with loved ones, and appreciate what life has to offer.  I can't wait to take in the world with open arms!
